Expanding Your Site with Virtual Private Servers
Well, you have been using a shared web host for a while, and with your site growing, you are starting to see some of the problems. For instance, on a shared site, if another users application hogs or breaks the database, you suffer. On a mission critical site, this is simply unacceptable. One solution, is switching to Virtual Private Servers. With a virtual private server, a large server is split into several ‘virtual machines’. Each machine is provisioned a certain amount of RAM, storage, and CPU time. This virtual machine has its own operating system installed, and for all intents and purposes is completely separated from the others running on the hardware. This means that it is impossible for another user to intentionally or unintentionally break or use the software (or steal data) on your server, from being another user. You also have full control of the software stack. If you want a different web server software, it is yours to install. As you can see virtual private servers offer several advantages over shared hosting.
